French Cidre & American Cheese Pairing

Join us as Etienne Dupont (third generation cider-masters of the famous Dupont family cidery in Normandy, France) and Jon Lundbom (B. United cheese expert) guides you through the world of French Cidres paired with American Interpretation of European style Cheese.

Learn about the different types of French cidres from Cidre Bouche to Cidre aged in Calvados oak barrels to 10% Cidre Triple to Sparkling Cidre to 40 proof Cider Spirit to a 1998 special blend of Dupont's unfermented apple juice in Calvados while discussing how the acidity, effervescence, and complexity of the product provide the perfect foil for cheeses- from rich triple cream indulgences to nutty, dense mountain cheeses.

The Louis Dupont Family estate consists of 74 acres of orchards in Normandy, in the heart of the Pays d'Auge region. The Dupont family has been producing cidres in the region since 1887 and it is currently ran by the fourth generation of Dupont- Jerome Dupont (son of Etienne Dupont).

Etienne Dupont, Cidre-Master and Current Patriarchal of Dupont Cidery
Etienne Dupont, third generation of cidre master, and current patriarchal of the Dupont Family Estate in Normandy, France (Pays d’Auge region). The Dupont family in the Pays d’Auge region in Normandy goes back for more than 3 centuries to 1703. Etienne Dupont took over the reins of the family estate in 1980, succeeding his father, Louis. He extended the estate, concentrating it activities around cider and calvados production. The old orchards were redeveloped and ten further hectares (24 acres) of low growing apple trees were planted. He went to Cognac, France to immerse himself in the best techniques of double distillation. Etienne Dupont is behind the creation of the appellation controlee A.O.C Pays d’ Auge.

Jon Lundbom
Having taught beer and cheese classes all over NYC, Jon Lundbom joined the B. United family in 2008. Jon’s enthusiasm for beer dates back to college, when he ventured into the world of home brewing and beer appreciation. Since then he has worked for Artisanal Premium Cheese Company in NYC furthering his studying of world-class cheeses, food and drinks. Now with B.United International, Jon travels the world on his never-ending quest to learn even more about the world’s best beers, cidres, sakes, and meads. In his spare time, Jon is lead guitarist, composer, and bandleader of the "Jon Lundbom & Big Five Chord".
