Brewery:
Birra Del Borgo was founded in May of 2005 not too far away from Italy's capital Rome {about 60 miles northwest}. Leonardo di Vincenzo was originally trained in biochemisrty but started brewing beer as a hobby during his college years.
Leonardo's main inspiration comes from English and Belgian beers and his main goal when brewing a beer is to solve the riddle between using unusual ingredients and creating perfect food pairings.
Leonardo's Story
"Birra Del Borgo was founded in May 2005 in Borgorose, a small town in the province of Rieti, on the border between Lazio and Abruzzo in the natural reserve of the mountains of the Duchess, because of an idea of mine. I started brewing beer at home for enjoyment during my university studies in biochemistry, with time it became more of a passion than a hobby.
I start traveling frequently to Europe to rediscover and explore the ancient styles beer: getting to know the German and Belgium master brewers has been critical to my education. In England I was able to experience beers that were very different from our common idea of beer (Italian): "real ale, low carbon, very full bodied and fruity with hints were very exciting. I brewed for a long period in at the brewery Starbess in Rome, this was one of my most formative experiences.
From there I took the courage to start Birra del Borgo. The beer brewing cultures that are dearest to me are: English and Belgian. I currently produce four beers year round, both in kegs & bottles: la Re Ale, la Duchessa, la Duc Ale, la Re Porter. Other products are dictated by the inspiration of the moment and seasonality related to the main ingredient."
