Class is in Session: Meet Professor Fritz Briem & Taste His Historical German Ales at ChurchKey
The history of beer, which stretches back nearly 10,000 years, is one of the most captivating aspects of its character. Concomitant with the boom in craft beer has been the rapid growth of beer writing, and some of our scribes have even focused their attention on digging up the salient stories and recipes that color the history of beer, and inform our contemporary comprehension of craft.
More recently, we have been experiencing a sort of renaissance of craft brewing, where brewers no longer merely read up on the past, they seek to resuscitate it through their brewing. Perhaps the leader in this movement is Dr. Fritz Briem, a professor of brewing and fermentation--as well as Director of Technology--at the esteemed Doemens Institute in Germany. He has been engineering some interesting and rather delicious historical brews for a number of years now, and--next Wednesday night--he will be appearing at ChurchKey, shedding light on his research, his career, and--of course--his beers!
We will be serving draft of both his Berliner Weisse interpretation, 1809, as well as his ode to medieval brewing, the 13th Century Grut Bier! For good measure, we will also be pouring tasters and full glasses of his Grodziskie brew straight from bottle...so be sure to come by and taste some boundary-pushing brews and meet the esteemed Professor behind these historical ales!
There is no admission fee for this very special event, and all Dr. Fritz Briem brews will be priced individually in 4 oz. tasters and full glass-pours.
